China Southern Power Grid to lay out charging stations in Shenzhen

China Southern Power Grid will invest more than 1 billion yuan to build 89 charging stations and 29,500 charging posts in Shenzhen by 2012, covering the city's main roads, communities, and parking lots.

The state-owned enterprise has signed contracts with Guangdong Province, Guangxi Province and Guizhou Province and built 10 charging stations and 350 charging posts in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanning, Kunming.

Southern Power Grid has been establishing power stations since the Guangzhou Asian Games period last year. The first charging station for electric buses in Guangzhou was put into operation November 8, 2010, becoming the pilot spot and "exclusive" charging station for the Asian Games Town.

A technical research team has been formed for electric vehicle charging system and relating technique development. Southern Power Grid has also established a research center in Shenzhen for new energy power development. The research center focuses on studying of solar and wind power application, energy-storing technology, charging technology of electric vehicles and so on.
