According to the 7th edition of the EF English Proficiency Index of Swedish education company EF Education First (EF), the English level of the Chinese mainland ranked 36th among 80 countries and regions in 2017, its highest level since 2011. The report also shows that the proficiency of English among Shanghai residents ranked first in China for four consecutive years, followed by Hong Kong and Beijing.
