Daihatsu Xenia

Japanese automaker Daihatsu Motor Co will sell its Xenia models under its Chinese partner FAW from August, according to the Beijing Times.

This is the second time Daihatsu is giving up auto making market in China after it reentered the country two years ago. In 2007 it had set the goal of producing 30,000 units a year in China.

Under a cooperation with FAW in June 2007, Xenia is a compact minivan, Daihatsu's only model selling in China that had weak sales of only 5,100 units last year.

A subsidiary of Toyota Motor, Daihatsu said it would keep its offices in China, and continue with its licensing agreement to share production technology with FAW.
