Huoshenshan Hospital, the first makeshift hospital in Wuhan special for patients infected with the novel coronavirus, admitted its first batch of 50 patients in serious condition on Tuesday morning.

The patients, who previously received treatment in Wuhan's designated hospitals, were transferred in 10 first aid ambulances to the newly constructed Huoshenshan Hospital. Some frailer patients were pushed into the wards in wheelchairs or in hospital beds, accompanied by medical personnel, the China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Tuesday

They will receive full treatment from a military-supported medical team in the hospital. More than 10 experts in the fields of infectious diseases, respiratory and critical care medicine were arranged for their diagnosis and treatment.

"To ensure the scientific treatment of patients to be transferred, we have a set of strict procedures from admission to careful diagnosis and treatment," Zhang Sibing, president of the Huoshenshan Hospital, told the media on Monday.

Netizens hailed the news, hoping that patients can receive better treatment at the hospital  and recover soon.

"Seeing how fast and well-organized the hospital has been put into use really boosts my

confidence about Wuhan's future in fighting against the ongoing epidemic," a Wuhan

resident commented on Sina Weibo.

The hospital conducted thorough inspections of all kinds of functions on Monday, including medical treatment, hospital management and docking with local government and other authorities.

The PLA medical team have tasked with treating patients in Huoshenshan Hospital had been receiving training and assessment for the overall work process since they arrived in Wuhan on Sunday, Zhang noted.

The construction of the hospital, which has a capacity of 1,000 beds and covers 34,000 square meters, was completed on Sunday.

Within the hospital, the wards are well-equipped with air conditioners, ventilation facilities and disinfection equipment, reports said.

Every ward has two beds, one separate bathroom with a built-in toilet, wash pool, water heater, shower and other facilities. Televisions and air purifiers have also been installed, according to media footage on Monday.

The hospital also enjoys full 5G coverage within a radius of 500 meters, which can meet the needs of nearly 20,000 people to access the internet.

The full operation of Huoshenshan Hospital will greatly relieve the pressure that hospitals face in treating patients, said Chinese respiratory expert Zhong Nanshan in an interview with CCTV on Sunday.

Leishenshan Hospital, another specialized treatment hospital with 1,500 beds and spanning 75,000 square meters, is expected to be put into use on Wednesday.
