A company office has burned down after an employee attempted to disinfect it by spraying alcohol.

Xiaosun, an employee of an electromechanical company in East China's Jiangsu Province, sprayed 75% alcohol around the office on March 2 to meet the current prevention requirements amid the epidemic outbreak.

As he was about to head to the stairs, he saw a small open fire appear near the electric plug on a desk. Before he could do anything about it, the whole office was engulfed in flames.

According to a video posted on Sina Weibo, the 25-square-foot office was burned black, window glass had shattered all over the floor and there was residue left by burned computers, desks and chairs.

Xiaosun immediately called in his colleagues and put out the fire using fire extinguishers and fire hoses.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The company's economic losses are still unknown.

"Well, at least the company won't bother to make up an excuse for layoffs now," a netizen joked on Sina Weibo.
