Beijing on Tuesday announced two new COVID-19 infections - one from Indonesia, and the other from the Chinese city of Dalian, after 20 consecutive days of zero infections.

The patient from Dalian had dined with friends from the port city of Jinzhou, another city in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, and drove a private vehicle to Beijing on July 19, Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of Beijing's municipal center for disease prevention and control, said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The patient, a 53-year-old woman, stayed in her daughter's residence in Beijing from July 20 to 23. She was put under medical observation on July 24 as a close contact of confirmed patients in Jinzhou.

Tiantongyuan community in Beijing, where the patient resides, put up temporary nucleic acid test camps overnight on Monday, and has been testing all residents in the residential community since Tuesday morning.

The other patient was an Indonesian national, who took a flight from Jakarta to Hong Kong on Sunday, and then to Beijing. The 63-year-old received a nucleic acid test after entering the Chinese mainland and was then put under quarantine. He showed symptoms of coughing that night and was confirmed to have the virus on Monday.

Beijing's health authority said on Sunday that the city hasn't reported new infection cases for 20 consecutive days.

Beijing municipal government spokesman Xu Hejian said at the Tuesday conference that the capital must strictly implement medical observation measures for anyone arriving from overseas, and those from medium- and high- risk areas.
