A series of disturbing pictures and videos a man posted online of himself torturing a dog, hanging it by its neck and removing its organs while it was still alive, has sparked outrage on social media, news portal southcn.com reported Wednesday.
Sina Weibo user named "I have a dog" claimed in his posts that the torture was an act of symbolic revenge against animal rights activists who have been intercepting trucks carrying dogs for slaughter and rescuing the animals.
Apparently the man was frustrated by the traffic problems these actions created, which he claimed meant he could not see his dying relative in Beijing.
The man announced his sickening show days in advance, posting "the actor for this dissecting movie is ready" and "pick one of the two dogs for the torture, which one do you want to save."
The video of the mutilation was soon posted on Tuesday and was deleted by the Sina Weibo watchdog. However the man did not give up and reposted it numerous times, media reported.
In the video he posted, the dog struggles while he opens its belly with a knife.
His posts have attracted more than 100,000 views, though they have all been deleted as of press time.
Most reactions on social media expressed horror and disgust.
"This man is disgusting and he should go to hell," "Ysrootgo" wrote on Sina Weibo.
"He should never leave his home because I will cut him into pieces myself," Sina Weibo user "Garden" wrote.
Animal rights activists have condemned the video, and lamented the lack of laws against animal cruelty that would allow charges to be brought.
