HK Chief Executive Carrie Lam attends ceremony marking V-Day of war against Japanese aggression

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam and other regional government officials on Thursday morning attended a ceremony to commemorate the Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945).

Thursday marked the 75th anniversary of the Victory Day. 

According to a video published on the website of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, a ceremony was first held in which the Chinese national flag was raised and the national anthem was sung. Hong Kong police then fired 21 shots in honor of the martyrs. The ceremony also included a silent tribute and bowing.

Participants of the ceremony also included Tung Chee-hwa, Vice Chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former Hong Kong chief executive Leung Chun-ying. Luo Huining, director of the central government's liaison office in Hong Kong, also attended the ceremony. 

All participants wore facial masks and observed social distancing due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Since 2014, the Hong Kong government has held official ceremonies to commemorate  Victory Day on September 3.
