CDC officials in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, revealed on Wednesday that more than 30,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to key groups of people, with no adverse reactions reported.

Wang Ping, a deputy director of the Shenyang CDC, announced the data during a daily press conference on Wednesday. The city reported one confirmed locally transmitted COVID-19 case on Wednesday morning.

An investigation into the latest confirmed infection case and the patient’s travel history is underway, said Shenyang government officials at the conference.

As of Wednesday noon, 78 cases were under medical treatment in Liaoning, and 28 asymptomatic patients were being quarantined in designated hospitals.

Shenyang had completed nucleic acid testing on 7,273,712 residents in the first round of citywide testing by Wednesday, all of whom returned negative results except one. The second round of sampling covered 2,591,143 residents and had generated test results from 777,597, all of which were negative, said Mao Yinbai, Shenyang public health commission spokesperson, at the press conference.

According to the Shenyang CDC, the city currently provides vaccines to key groups of people and will soon expand it to a wider range of eligible residents.

Wang vowed that as more vaccines are put into use, the city will cover all sections of the eligible people in an orderly fashion.

The city has now established 229 inoculation sites and 141 vaccination clinics. The number of vaccination clinics will be increased to ensure vaccine coverage for everyone in key populations, CDC officials said.

Liu Yaoguo, spokesperson with the city’s development and reform commission, said on Monday that the city has purchased enough COVID-19 vaccines to cover 200,000 people and has them ready in storage.
