Meng La county in Southwest China's Yunnan Province, which borders Laos and Myanmar, is setting up a central isolation site with 2,001 beds to ease the pressure brought by COVID-19 import risks, given the still-raging pandemic in the two neighboring countries. 

As the frontline against foreign COVID-19 imports, Meng La has been facing growing concerns over virus transmission from abroad and dialed up its epidemic prevention efforts, including central isolation requirements, the China News reported on Saturday. 

To satisfy the growing demand for quarantine, Meng La is working on the construction of a new central isolation site which contains more than 2,000 rooms and 2,001 beds. Another 51 rooms are being prepared for management staff and will be able to accommodate 112 people. 

The construction of the project is estimated to be completed within one month. 

As of Saturday, Yunnan had five confirmed COVID-19 imported cases and three asymptomatic ones, all of whom have been put in quarantine in designated hospitals. 

China has a total of 278 imported cases from overseas, according to a report issued by the National Health Commission on Saturday. A total of 1,205 confirmed patients and 746 silent carriers under medical observation have been reported.
