The person in charge of a cleaning project in which two workers died after a gust of wind hit them while cleaning the façade of a building in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province on Monday afternoon has been detained, media reported on Tuesday.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

A video of the incident uploaded online showed a swing stage used to clean a building being blown by strong winds and banging into the building before it was stabilized by rescuers 20 minutes later.

"It's only 2 pm in the afternoon and the whole sky just turned into darkness," said one citizen in the video.

Two workers who worked on the stage were sent to hospital immediately after being rescued but died from their injuries.

According to the report, an 8-11 gale-force wind hit the city at around 2:30 pm when the two cleaning workers were working at height outside a building.

According to the Wuhan Evening News, gale-force winds were detected at several monitoring points of the Wuhan Meteorological Bureau on Monday.
