Chinese netizens witnessed a special family reunion after the public security department in Zaozhuang, East China's Shandong Province, released a video on Tuesday of a 90-year-old father meeting his son who had been abducted 58 years ago.

The father, surnamed Luo, lost the 2-year-old at a train station in Xuecheng in 1963. He said he was waiting for the train at the time, and just a few minutes after he let go of his son's hand, he found that he had disappeared, reported Dazhong Daily, a Shandong-based media outlet.

For years, Luo and his family had tried using the internet, newspapers and other media to find their child, but all their efforts failed.

The turning point came in 2015 when the public security authorities in Zaozhuang launched a special investigation into the case. They employed the latest DNA testing technology for the search, and expanded the search scope to more provinces.

The lost child, named Fu, who is now 60 years old, was finally found on June 1 after confirming the biological relationship between him and Luo.

Fu said he was told by his adoptive parents that they had adopted him from Shanghai and knew nothing else about his origins.

The reunion took place on Tuesday, with Fu closely hugging Luo, getting down on his knees and bursting into tears.

China's Ministry of Public Security launched a national campaign to crack down on child abduction and trafficking in January. As of Wednesday, 1,680 trafficked children have been found.
