Lasting six minutes, a light show rehearsed along the Huangpu River on Tuesday night amazed both Chinese and foreign netizens. It featured laser lights and music on over 300 buildings on both sides of the river, displaying a brilliant show to the audience, as a way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The show will be staged from June 30 to July 4 along Shanghai's Huangpu River, changing different colors and displaying significant moments during the country's revolutionary history. The background music was compiled based on several songs including The Internationale, March of the Volunteers and Ode to the Red Flag.

The video of the show became popular among Chinese social media platforms, with many giving a like to the video and commenting that they felt proud of China.

"I am grateful to the revolutionary martyrs, and grateful that we were born in a good time!" a local Shanghai resident told the Global Times on Wednesday after watching the show.

"The light show was amazing," Source Li, a Chinese Canadian, who works for a wine business in Shanghai, but lives in Canada, told the Global Times on Wednesday. "It would be nice to keep it, and it could be a local tourist attraction." Li said he wished to go back to China soon.

When asked by his friend why he celebrated the CPC's birthday, "I explained to them that I live here as a 'Chinese citizen,'" Ibrahim, 32, from Egypt, who studied in Beijing in 2010 and now is living in Shanghai, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

As a foreigner who is interested in China's history and the CPC's efforts for Chinese people, "words can't explain my feelings," Ibrahim said. He also went to the birthplace of the CPC - the site of the First National Congress of CPC in Shanghai, as well as the Red Boat on Nanhu Lake in East China's Zhejiang Province.

Since the beginning of 2020, the team for this show have begun to learn the new technology, materials and ideas, in order to better present the charm of Shanghai night, according to media reports.
