China will hold a major military activity in the Yellow Sea from Friday to Tuesday, the country’s maritime safety authorities announced on Thursday. The event will coincide with the anticipated fall of rocket debris on Friday, also in the Yellow Sea.

From Friday 8 am to Tuesday 6 pm, a major military activity will be held in the Yellow Sea southeast of Rongcheng, East China’s Shandong Province and Lianyungang, East China’s Jiangsu Province. To ensure safety, no vessels will be allowed to enter the designated area, according to a navigational restriction notice released on Thursday by the Maritime Safety Administration of Qingdao, East China’s Shandong Province.

The notice did not elaborate on the details of the military activity.

A similar navigational restriction notice for the same time period and location was released by the Maritime Safety Administration of Lianyungang on Tuesday, but it was retracted on the same day for unspecified reasons.

According to a separate navigational restriction notice issued by the Maritime Safety Administration of Lianyungang on Monday, the fall of rocket debris is anticipated on Friday between 12 pm and 12 am in two areas of the Yellow Sea, and entry to those areas has also been prohibited.

It is not currently known whether the military activity is related to the fall of the rocket debris.
