A youth hostel in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, has been caught in controversy for naming one of its rooms "Auschwitz," which some customers found "improper" and "offensive."

The hostel is listed under the name "psychopath" on Meituan, a Chinese life service platform. The "Auschwitz" is a room that has two bunk beds for four men, according to Meituan website.

A staffer from the hostel told the media that the hostel has changed the room's name due to the controversy.

Some people complained about how "offensive" it is to name a hostel after a notorious concentration camp for prisoners during World War II.

Netizens also blasted the hostel's promotion.

"It is trampling on others to use human suffering as a gimmick," said one netizen on Sina Weibo.

The hostel, however, still kept the name "psychopath" on Meituan.

Chengdu Market Supervision Administration said the hostel did not register under this name but a "normal" one when it was first opened in 2016.

It is not against any regulation for the hotel to use a different name on promotion platforms, said the administration.
