China's Consulate General in Los Angeles has given more details of the US' interrogation and intimidation of Chinese students at border controls in Los Angeles International Airport, urging the US to stop using absurd excuses for unwarranted restrictions and suppression of Chinese students.

According to the warning released by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles on Friday, multiple Chinese students were repeatedly asked by US law enforcement officers about their purposes for studying in the US and previous academic performances when entering Los Angeles International Airport.

Some were also interrogated over whether they had been employed, received disciplinary sanctions or stolen laboratory data. Others were threatened, intimidated and even deprived of their personal freedom for hours before being refused entry and repatriated.

US law enforcement officials also interrogated and examined those exiting the country, confiscating some of their electronic devices.

The Consulate General has made a solemn representation to the US and urged it to correct its mistake of using absurd excuses for unwarranted restrictions and suppression of Chinese students.

Three Chinese students with valid visas were questioned and deported by the US when entering the country on August 15 at Houston airport. They were suspected of having connections with the Chinese military after being found to have "military training photos" in their mobile phones.

In late September, another Chinese student possessing a valid visa was interrogated at the border control of Houston Airport. US law enforcement officers repatriated the student through a third country after restricting the student's personal freedom for more than 50 hours without proper food and rest.

China urged the  US to stop using absurd excuses to suppress Chinese students in two lists that Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng raised in a meeting with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman in North China's Tianjin on July 26.

China calls for the revocation of visa restrictions on Chinese students in the List of US Wrongdoings that Must Stop and the list of Key Individual Cases that China Has Concerns with.
