A Ferris wheel under construction collapsed in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian Province on Monday afternoon. The scene has been closed off, and onsite staffer said there were no casualties reported.

In a live TV broadcast, an onsite staffer surnamed Lian said the collapse occurred at around 2:40 pm and caused no casualties.

Lian, the site staff, said the cause of the collapse was the steel parts falling off in the process of the Ferris wheel assembly. The specific cause of the accident is under further investigation.

Local media reported that one person was trapped on the hub of the Ferris wheel when it collapsed and was subsequently rescued by the staff with a crane.

Boom lines have been set up at the site, and residents are not allowed to enter the scene.

On live television, some nearby residents said they heard the sound of the collapse twice, once at around 2:40 and once after 3 pm, and that parts fell off the Ferris wheel.

According to previous reports, this Ferris wheel was constructed by Longfor Properties and began to be assembled in April, and its height is more than 120 meters, which is the highest Ferris wheel in the province.

Longfor Properties, the constructor of the Ferris wheel, refused to comment on the incident on Monday afternoon.

A local resident surnamed Huang who lives in a nearby neighborhood told the Global Times on Monday that the Ferris wheel was very close to being completed before it collapsed.

Another nearby resident surnamed Zhao told the Global Times on Monday that the Ferris wheel was planned to be part of a nearby shopping center, and it is a government project in the newer part of Fuzhou.
