Activities of the Confucius Institute are based on the full communication between all partners, and China opposes the politicization of academic and cultural exchange activities, Chinese Embassy in Germany said, in response to some German media making irresponsible remarks about the Confucius Institute in Germany’s cancellation of book reading activities.

The Confucius Institute in Germany is a language and cultural institute jointly established by China and Germany. It aims to enhance German society’s understanding of Chinese language and culture, strengthen China-German education and cultural exchanges, and deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples, the spokesperson of the embassy said.

Activities of the institute are based on full communication between all partners, in line with the common interests and concerns of both parties.

The Confucius Institute should be a platform for comprehensive and objective understanding of China. China firmly opposes the politicization of academic and cultural exchange activities, the embassy spokesperson said.
