Lanzhou, a city in Northwest China's Gansu Province, will reopen schools from Tuesday after a 27-day suspension since October to prevent COVID-19 resurgence.

Local department of education announced on Saturday that schools in downtown will reopen a week later than those suburban areas. Schools ranging from kindergartens to high schools will restore offline teaching in different batches.

For schools in suburban areas, high school students in graduating classes will be the first batch to go back to school on Tuesday, while those in non-graduating classes will return one day later. Primary schools will reopen on Thursday while kindergartens and special education schools will restore operation on November 22.

Approved by local educational department, after-school training institutions can restore training activities a week later after the reopening of schools. The winter vacation will begin no later than January 15, 2022, said local Ministry of Education.

School suspension in Lanzhou has lasted for 27 days when the city urgently suspended schools on October 21 after detecting the first confirmed COVID-19 case.

According to local health commission, Lanzhou has reported a total of 83 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Saturday. There have been no new cases reported since last Tuesday.
