The Chinese Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) issued an urgent notice requesting Chinese nationals in the three eastern provinces of DRC -- Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu -- to report their information to the embassy and evacuate immediately after a number of vicious cases of armed robbery and kidnapping of Chinese nationals took place in the region.

The embassy urged Chinese nationals in the high-risk areas to report their personal information by December 10.

Chinese nationals in the area around Bunia and Djugu in Ituri, Beni and Rutshuru in North Kivu, and Fizi, Uvira and Mwenga in South Kivu are requested to evacuate to other safe areas in the DRC as soon as possible, said the embassy.

Those who refuse to report information and insist on going to or staying in the three provinces will be personally responsible for all consequences arising therefrom, the embassy said.

The embassy advised Chinese nationals and Chinese-funded institutions in other parts of the DRC to pay close attention to the local situation, strengthen safety precautions and emergency preparedness, and avoid unnecessary trips. In case of emergency, please call the police and contact the embassy in time, said the embassy.

Reports said two Chinese nationals were killed in a mine on November 24 and five were kidnapped in an armed attack on a gold mine in the country.
