The State Council, China's cabinet, launched a five-year action plan, from 2021 to 2025, to further improve the living conditions of the rural population, Xinhua News Agency reported on Sunday.

The action plan proposes that rural living conditions should be significantly improved by 2025 and the ecological construction of China's rural areas needs to make new progress, while placing great emphasis on steadily increasing the penetration rate of sanitary facilities in rural areas with effective control of sewage and human waste.

Moreover, the plan stresses the significance of continuously improving sewage treatment infrastructure in rural areas while successfully managing the disorderly dumping and discharge of waste.

As for the management of waste, the plan sets the goal to significantly improve the treatment of rural waste and villages should achieve waste classification and source reduction.

The overall management of rural living conditions is to be significantly improved and the long-term management and care mechanism needs to be established by 2025.

More policy support will be provided according to the plan which stressed that financial investment will be strengthened while improving and innovating relevant supporting policies and promoting the construction of systematic regulations.

The support in science and technology and talent recruitment will be continuously strengthened with research and innovation on technologies related to improving rural living conditions to be included in the key tasks of the national science and technology plan.
