Qingdao University, in East China's Shandong Province, said that it has launched an investigation after an employee was reported to post controversial comments on visit to Japan's Yasukuni Shrine and support actor Zhang Zhehan who was banned from the Chinese entertainment industry for visiting the shrine.

The university said it will deal with the issue in accordance with the laws and regulations after an investigation, according to a post of the university on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo on Saturday.

According to reports circulating online, a Weibo user with the ID "Gao Ya" posted on Weibo "My generation can visit the Yasukuni Shrine as our wish, and the new generation should be confident," commenting on the visit to the shrine which honors Japanese war criminals during World War II.

The controversial post has been deleted by Sunday evening.

The post provoked controversy since it was made days before the National Memorial Day for the Nanjing Massacre Victims on Monday.

"People from any country, as long as they are right-thinking and conscientious, will never go to that place", a netizen posted on Weibo.

It was also found that Gao Ya has supported Zhang Zhehan, who was boycotted by Chinese netizens and his works were removed from social media platforms for visiting the notorious Yasukuni Shrine, by saying that Zhang was a "fashionable, confident young Chinese."
