Wenfeng Cosmetology Group, a hair beauty company based in Shanghai, apologized on Sunday after it was placed under investigation for illicit promotions in its marketing strategies.

The firm came under the spotlight after publishing an article on its WeChat account, which was full of flamboyant and flattering words to the boss as well as the founder Chen Hao. Chen was described as being "godlike" with "heavenly eyes," and that he mastered the "rules of everything." The account, according to its description, is used for publishing "Chen's thoughts, orders, and company news."

After the article went viral, netizens found videos showing Chen dancing as if doing a charm spell in front of a cheering crowd of employees during a meeting. Soon after, media revealed Wenfeng salon employees using tricks to persuade customers to buy long-term membership cards. One netizen said that a staffer tried to sell him a 1,980 yuan service package 12 times in just 20 minutes while he was at the store.
