A man from Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, was detained for five days and removed from all his managing positions at his company after video of him beating his wife up in the presence of their child went viral last week.

The video shows that the man named Wang Pengfei committed the domestic violence at home. Wang was beating his wife up on her head for several minutes while she tried to protect their child.

Later, a post suspected to have been written by Wang's wife went viral on the internet, saying that Wang had been physically abusing her since they got married years ago.

Many netizens condemned Wang's behavior and expressed vehement criticism against domestic violence. Some netizens who claimed to be Wang's co-workers said that Wang seemed to be "humble and gentle" at work and they were shocked he committed domestic violence.

The Baqiao police branch of Xi'an's public security department released a statement on Saturday, saying Wang's wife, who is also surnamed Wang, reported to the police last Wednesday about the incident that happened Tuesday evening.

The police found that the couple got into a dispute on family chores. The wife's words and actions led to the escalation of their conflict, which caused the domestic violence. The wife suffered from some soft tissue injuries. Later, the husband was placed under administrative detention for five days and the wife was educated by the police.

Xinsilu Trade Company under the Airport Group based in Shaanxi which Wang worked for as a deputy manager of the company's integrated department announced to remove Wang from all his positions on its official Weibo account on Saturday night. Besides, Wang, as a Party member, was given a severe disciplinary warning within the Party.
