Notorious anti-China US Republican senator Marco Rubio and his like are making a desperate call clamoring to move the upcoming Winter Olympics out of Beijing, even if the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will start in less than 10 days.

Rubio and fellow Republican senator James Lankford went ahead by introducing a resolution asking the International Olympic Committee to relocate the Beijing Winter Games. Their cited concerns are the same old tricks of the so-called human rights abuses in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Perhaps even Rubio and Lankford themselves don't believe any people would heed their call. It is impossible that they have no idea what goes into making venues built and available and getting staff and volunteers and everything else to function.

But still, they are making the final outcry, with the sole purpose of meeting their political ends.

Over the years, Rubio has been staging anti-China shows for China hawks in his Florida state and creating widening mistrust of China in US society. Then he capitalizes on that trend to continue to fool and brainwash his voters as a way to connect with them. But the ultimate goal is to mastermind them and make them stay loyal to him.

From hyping the origins of the novel coronavirus, smearing China's anti-pandemic measures, and playing the "human rights" card, to launching a diplomatic boycott of the Olympic Games, none of these anti-China plots of the US and its politicians has succeeded. On the contrary, the US is the world's worst performer in this ongoing pandemic with the highest death toll of nearly 900,000. While the US is obsessed with the "genocide" and "human rights violations" allegations, its Guantanamo Bay detention camp, which has existed for 20 years, is the very US symbolic misdeed of arbitrary detention and human rights violations. What is even more ironic is that the US was the first country to announce a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics, but a group of US diplomats have applied for visas to attend the event and 46 of them got approval.

All the US' anti-China moves have turned out to be a farce one after another, something even the US itself finds it difficult to make into a good case. But what we see is not serious reflection from US politicians and policymakers or any of their attempts to save their country from the abyss and disgrace. Rather, we see them become more hysterical in smearing China and playing with American voters.

Shen Yi, a professor at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Fudan University, told the Global Times that in the minds of US politicians such as Rubio, there is no such thing as political dignity and bottom line, and their criticism of China is not for the sake of human justice as they claimed, but their political calculations.

"That is why the governance of the US, the most developed country in the world, has degraded to what it is now," said Shen.

While Rubio and others stage a clumsy show by calling for moving the Winter Olympics out of Beijing, Beijing is set to present a successful sports event to the world. The event is a display of unity, strength and tenacity of the international community against the backdrop of the ravaging pandemic, while the US and its wild politicians have obviously detached themselves from all these positive terms.
