The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games said on Monday that there is no specific success target required for Chinese athletes in Beijing 2022, wishing all athletes to have excellent performances during the Games.

"From the perspective of the Beijing Organizing Committee, we hope that all the athletes, not just those from China, can have an excellent performance during the Games", said Yang Shu'an, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Organizing Committee in a press conference.

"It is participation rather than rankings that is important in the tradition of Olympic sports and the success to athletes lies in the great progress they have made against themselves, instead of breaking the Olympic record or winning gold medals," emphasized Yang

"Of course, we wish Chinese athletes can have a good performance but they are not required to reach certain success target. Instead, we wish them to participate in the events in a very fair, clean and moral way rather than counting the number of gold medals they got," explained Yang in response to questions and doubts on required success targets for Chinese athletes as China began to win growing numbers of medals in the Games.

The Chinese team won another gold and silver medal in Short Track Speed Skating Men's 1000m on Monday evening. With a total of two golds and two silvers as of press time, Team China has now risen to the fourth place in the medal ranking.
