When the fifth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a press conference on Thursday afternoon, China has officially entered the period of its "two sessions." Against the backdrop of the current turbulent international situation, the two sessions started as scheduled, which has injected valuable stability and positive energy to the world.

Entering 2022, people have gained a deeper understanding of the sentence that "the world has witnessed a period of turbulence and transformation." The Omicron variant is rapidly raging across the world, making it harder for the world to get out of the pandemic. In the face of sluggish economic recovery, major economies have lowered their economic growth expectations. Unrest broke out in Kazakhstan, the situation in Ukraine has been dramatically changing, and regional hot spot issues and conflicts have been emerging. Peace or war? Development or decline? Progress or regression? Once again, mankind is standing at the crossroads of history.

In this historic process, China has made its choice and gained achievements that have been recognized. In 2021, China's economy expanded 8.1 percent year-on-year and its foreign trade surpassed the $6 trillion mark for the first time, achieving both objectives of high growth and low inflation. China's per capita GDP stood at 80,976 yuan, an increase of 8 percent over the previous year, surpassing the world average. China has contributed more than 30 percent to world economic growth for successive years, becoming the driving force of global economic development.

This is the natural result of China's insistence on "pooling resources and concentrating on managing the country's affairs well." It's also a vivid manifestation of China grasping the "peace and development" theme.

Currently, the world has become accustomed to seeing China's two sessions convened as scheduled. This reflects the people's high confidence in China's stability. Fewer other countries could maintain decades of stable development as China has. We have seen too many countries' development processes disrupted, interrupted, bogged down or even reversed. The ups and downs of the outside world have reflected how precious the peace, stability and fast-progressing life that the Chinese people are enjoying is. Of course, this is hard-fought.

Concentrating our efforts on managing our own affairs well is an important mission of the two sessions, and this won't change, as it is also a strong consensus of the Chinese society. The two sessions will show the world that China has always spent its energy on promoting people's livelihood, guaranteeing the well-being of its own people and safeguarding national stability, unity, development and prosperity. This is the main tone of China's political life. The major topics of this year's two sessions include stabilizing the economy, ensuring employment and preventing and controlling the epidemic - all of which concern the vital interests of the people.

Chinese President Xi Jinping underlined that China doing its own things well contributes to the world. That's exactly what has happened. China has lifted 770 million rural residents out of absolute poverty since the beginning of the reform and opening-up over 40 years ago, accounting for more than 70 percent of the global total. China's plan to enter the high-income group by 2025 means the number of people in the high-income group in the world will double. In the turbulent world, China's "two sessions" have become a symbol of peace, stability and development.

With the timing of the two sessions as a milestone, the Chinese people have maintained the pace and determination to forge ahead and create a miracle of development that has attracted the attention of the entire world.

There is a Chinese saying, "All roads lead to the same destination; different plans result in the same thing." There are many ways to achieve democracy. A good democracy is bound to achieve good governance and promote national development. There is no such absurdity that a country's "democracy" is a "model for the world" while its own national governance is a "failure" or is "ineffective," and its domestic problems pile up high. China has demonstrated its unique advantages of the whole-process people's democracy through the window of its "two sessions." By virtue of its stability and development, China has continued to make important contributions to the world to overcome difficulties, develop and achieve prosperity.
