Tesla said on Tuesday that its data security standards have been approved by the responsible authorities in Shanghai after the company submitted an annual data security report for review, while stressing that it has locally stored all data generated in China and strengthened cooperation with regulators.

According to a statement by the American electric vehicle manufacturer, only Tesla and SAIC-Volkswagen, out of more than 30 enterprises, passed the first round of review. This also proved that Tesla passed the strict data compliance review and met all the evaluation conditions set by regulators.

The data center for Tesla's Shanghai Factory was completed in Lingang New Area in October, 2021. Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, has stressed in multiple times at several industry conferences in China that data security is a cornerstone of the industrial development for electric vehicles.

Data from the China Passenger Car Association released on Tuesday showed that Tesla sold 56,515 vehicles in February, down 5.56 percent compared with the previous month, with 33,315 cars for export.
