Chinese Premier Li Keqiang reiterated that China believes sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, supports all actions conducive to a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis, and will make constructive contributions.

Li made the remarks at a Friday press conference after the closing meeting of the annual plenary session of the National People's Congress.

China always upholds independent diplomacy, and on the Ukraine issue, China maintains that sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected, the UN Charter and principles should be observed, and security concerns of all countries should be paid attention to, Li said.

China makes decisions based on its own judgment and is willing to play a positive role in bringing back peace jointly with the international community, Li said in response to a question on China's stance on the issue given its relations with Russia.

The current situation is alarming and the international community should support Russia and Ukraine to overcome challenges and continue the negotiations until a peaceful solution is reached. Any efforts conducive to a peaceful solution to the crisis should be supported and encouraged, and the most urgent task is to avoid the tension from escalating or going out of control, Li said.

China has raised humanitarian proposals and will continue to provide humanitarian aids.

The premier noted the global economy is already struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and relevant sanctions will hurt the world's recovery and are in no one's interests. China is willing to make constructive contributions to world peace, stability and prosperity, Li said.

Responding to a question on whether China fears the Ukraine situation would affect China's trade ties with Europe and the US, Li said that China's development of bilateral relationship never targets a third country, and will continue to develop ties with different sides based on mutual respect and the win-win principle, injecting more stability into the world.
