Quarantined at home due to the epidemic, a woman made a birthday cake at home for her neighbor's son in Weihai, East China's Shandong Province, on March 10. After learning that her neighbor's son could not get a cake for his birthday in a chatting group of the community, she took on the task.

The woman said she wore a mask and gloves during the cake-making process to make her neighbor comfortable. The neighbor was very grateful and sent her 100 yuan to show gratitude.

The woman also said she was in a hurry and did not decorate the cake well. She also recorded the process and posted it on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, prompting an outpouring of encouragement and support from netizens. "Her kindness has fully expressed the old saying that 'a near friend is better than a distant relative.' It makes a lot more sense than buying a cake for the little boy," one comment said.
