Five people died after torrential rain caused a geological disaster in Rongshui county in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, search and rescue efforts remain underway.

Following the heavy rainfall, a wooden structure in Xiangfen village in Rongshui collapsed, claiming five lives.

All residents nearby the village have been relocated, local media said.

The whole of Guangxi has been subject to severe flooding since the start of the month, with 2.34 million people affected. A total of 145,000 residents have been relocated, with 370,000 needing emergency assistances, the media reported.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Emergency Management allocated 5,000 tents, emergency relief packages, beds and other aid to the region, as forecasts suggest Guangxi will face another round of downfalls expected between Friday to Tuesday.
