As the epidemic prevention and control situation in Beijing continues to improve and has entered the final phase, local authorities launched an inspection campaign to consolidate the hard-won achievements in the COVID fight.

During the inspection, 70 companies including a McDonald's restaurant were found to have failed to strictly carry out anti-epidemic measures and a stand-up show was called off on the spot due to attendance exceeding the 75 percent limit.

Beijing's health authority reported on Monday that four local confirmed cases and one asymptomatic case were found on Sunday. The latest outbreak in Beijing was triggered by cluster infections at a bar - Heaven Supermarket - in Chaoyang district in early June. The asymptomatic case found on Sunday was also linked to the bar.

So far there are more than 300 COVID-19 cases linked to the bar. The transmission chain of the cluster infections has been basically blocked, and the epidemic situation continues to improve and enters the final stage, the city's health authority said on Saturday at a press conference. As of Friday, a total of 369 cases were reported during the outbreak linked to the Heaven Supermarket since June 9.

Beijing has been asking all its residents to undergo a nucleic acid test every two or three days, if residents do not comply, the health code will send them a notification. People are also required to show their health codes before they enter any public places.

However, during the inspection, 70 companies in Chaoyang district, where most cases were found in this outbreak and where the bar is located, were found to have failed to implement the anti-epidemic measures strictly. Most of the 70 companies are restaurants and supermarkets including a McDonald's restaurant and The Soup Kitchen restaurant, according to local authorities of Chaoyang district on Sunday.

Also, some culture and entertainment venues have failed to carry out the anti-epidemic measures. A stand-up comedy show in Dongcheng district was called off on site as the attendance exceeded 75 percent limit and there was no safe distance between the  members of the audience.

The organizer of the performance and the venue operator were ordered to close and rectify the performance activities at the venue.

A local resident surnamed Zhang who has recently watched the stand-up comedy told the Global Times on Monday that the performance was crowded. Some of the audience took off their masks, and they failed to keep social distance during the show, which made him worried of the potential risks of epidemic transmission.

Several other residents said that they found public venues such as restaurants and supermarkets in recent weeks become more serious in carrying out the anti-epidemic measures including requesting customers to scan the health code, show their negative nucleic acid test results and scan their the body temperature.

Last week, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Urban Management and Law Enforcement carried out a series of epidemic prevention and control inspections in three types of venues - commercial buildings, shopping malls and restaurants.

Five restaurants in Beijing were reprimanded for the adoption of inadequate epidemic prevention measures on Sunday. The local urban management department has required the responsible units to rectify the situation, handed over the cases to relevant departments for joint punishment, ranging from warnings, fines, suspensions of business according to law.
