The Beijing Municipal Postal Administration imposed an administrative penalty against  JD Logistics in Beijing for failing to implement COVID-19 prevention measures in one of its locations, Beijing Daily reported on Tuesday.

During the inspection of a JD Logistics’ express location at Mentougou District, Beijing, the postal authorities found that an employee of the express courier company did not wear N95 mask as required and did not take daily nucleic acid tests.

It was also found that other employees did not wear N95 masks at work. The postal authorities also reported that the site did not carry out disinfection of mail and parcels during working hours, among other problems.

The postal administration in the western area of Beijing ordered the site to implement corrective measures and imposed a penalty for the violation of laws and regulations.

The Beijing Municipal Postal Administration summoned the representatives from JD Logistics’ headquarters in Beijing for a talk and ordered the company to carry out thorough self-examination and rectification of potential epidemic prevention and control risks.

The authorities requested the company to step up efforts in epidemic control and prevention at each location, strengthen the management and education on its employees and strictly implement the daily nucleic acid test requirement, vaccination requirement and temperature check on staffers.

The Beijing Municipal Postal Administration said that staffers from express courier companies must adhere to the prevention and control of the epidemic and strictly implement nucleic acid testing and other prevention and control measures as Beijing has entered the phase of regular COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control.

The problems exposed by JD logistics’ location in Mentougou district has highlighted the hidden dangers and risk in the courier industry and the Beijing postal authorities said they will continue to strengthen law enforcement, inspection and punish violations against laws and regulations.

According to working guidelines for postal express delivery personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic issued by the Beijing municipal government in May, front-line delivery personnel should wear N95 masks in a standardized manner, have regular nucleic acid testing and express delivery locations should carry out triple disinfection of express mail arriving in Beijing and strengthen epidemic prevention and control for express mail from overseas.JD Logistics fined for breaching COVID-19 prevention measures in Beijing
