NW China’s Lanzhou detects 87 positive cases amid sixth mass screening; 9,383 residents under quarantine

The main urban area in Lanzhou, Northwest China's Gansu Province, has conducted a sixth round of mass nucleic acid testing, taking more than 2.19 million samplings, with 87 positive cases detected. Over 9,300 residents have been put under centralized quarantine, the city authorities said on Monday. 

The city has carried out temporary anti-epidemic measures with some areas sealed off for seven days since July 11.

Authorities said as of 10 am on Monday, 186 positive cases have been reported in this local outbreak in Lanzhou which started in early July. A total of 125 centralized quarantine sites have been put into use and 9,383 residents are under centralized quarantine, according to the local authorities.

The seventh round of mass nucleic acid testing has been conducted in the main urban areas of the city starting from 5 pm Sunday, taking more than 2.23 million samplings, with 19 positive cases found as of 10 am Monday, according to the authorities.

The sealed-off management over the four districts - Chengguan, Qilihe, Xigu and Anning - in Lanzhou, will be expanded to July 24 based on the epidemic situation, according to the local authorities on Monday.

In order to prevent the epidemic from spreading to other regions, the city has conducted epidemiological investigation timely and reported to the related areas to screen the possible related residents.

The city also strengthened supervision over enterprises to ensure normal daily supplies for residents and an online plus offline mode is encouraged to deliver commodities to the residential communities, according to the authorities.

Some individual cases have been detected in some other regions in the province. Tianshui, another city in Gansu, has announced to conduct temporary control measures starting from Monday over part of the public transportation due to epidemic outbreak. A seven-day temporary sealed-off management will be conducted from 7 pm Monday to 7 pm July 24 in Maiji district, Tianshui, according to local authorities.

In Xiahe county, 53 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported as of Sunday in this around of outbreak and they're all being treated or observed in designated hospitals or centralized quarantine sites, according to local authorities on Monday.
