The strained situation in the Taiwan Straits was made by the US' provocation and it should take all the responsibility and face serious consequence. However, the US is making excuses for its wrong deeds and provocations and trying to shift blame, which China firmly opposed, Senior Colonel Wu Qian, a spokesperson of China's Ministry of National Defense, said in a statement on Monday.

Analysts said that the US takes all the responsibility for destroying the communication channel and whether it will be rebuilt or how the two militaries will connect will depend on the US' attitude in correcting its wrong deeds.

In responding to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's provocative visit to the island of Taiwan, China on Friday announced eight countermeasures, including canceling China-US theater commanders talk, defense policy coordination talks, military maritime security consultative mechanism and suspending cooperation on illegal immigration repatriation, drug control and climate change.

US media Politico reported that senior US military officials called Chinese military on the cancelation of the exchanged of the two militaries but were refused

Wu responded in the Monday statement that China had reiterated its stances on the two militaries, the Taiwan question and other related issues, and had lodged solemn representations to the US on Pelosi's visit, but the US spoke of one thing while acting in another, connived Pelosi and purposely created tensions at the Taiwan Straits.

In responds to the US severe provocation, China announced eight countermeasures, which are necessary, justified and proper to defend national sovereignty and security, Wu said.

Wu said the red line of China should not be challenged and communication should be made with sincerity. The US is creating crisis but on the other hand claiming to control disputes to make cover for its wrong deeds and provocations and even to fool others and shift blame, which China firmly opposed to.

"We urge the US to concretely respect China's core interests and major concerns, to abandon illusion of using the island of Taiwan to counter China and not to go astray further," Wu warned.

Some military experts reached by the Global Times on Monday said that the communication between the Chinese and US militaries even at the working level has been cancelled, let alone high-level exchanges. And the  provocation of Pelosi's visit to the island of Taiwan has destroyed the environment of high-level communication.

In responding to the US using media reports that "expose" Chinese military's refusal of communication, an anonymous expert said that China's stance is clear - the US cannot create troubles while hope China to improve communication and to build "guardrail" and once it failed to reached the purpose, it shifts blame to China.

"This time, the responsibility in destroying communication channel lies in the US and whether to rebuild it or how the two militaries will communicate later depends on the US' attitude in correcting its wrong deeds," said the expert.

This is not the first time for the US military to use media to drum up topics of "China's refusal of communication," analysts said. In the first half year of 2021, the US used anonymous sources to also hype up related topics in media reports. The US attempted to use such "microphone diplomacy" to pressure China.

For example, on April 20, 2022, State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe had a phone conversation with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, which was the first communication between the two defense ministers after US President Joe Biden took office. Reuters reported that the phone conversation was requested by Austin and that he had tried to communicate with senior Chinese military official but failed.

The anonymous military expert said that given the current situation in the West Pacific, the US intends to maintain the status quo and is more willing to have communication. But China has made its stance clear that it's bottom line should not be challenged and communication requires sincerity. The US must make concrete actions to show its sincerity in dealing with relations with China and this is the premise needed for the two sides to have communications.
