Nepal adheres to one-China policy, welcomes Chinese tourists for mountain trekking: Nepali Ambassador to China
Nepal firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is committed to not allowing any activity in its territory aimed against China, Ambassador of Nepal to China Bishnu Pukar Shrestha said on Sunday at an event promoting tourism in Beijing.
The ambassador made the remarks at an event titled "Mountaineering and Trekking in Nepal" at the Embassy of Nepal in China on Sunday night. The event was part of the activities to celebrate the 67th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Nepal.
"Nepal and China enjoy excellent historic and age-old relations characterized by cordiality, mutual trust, understanding and good neighborliness. The multifaceted relations between the two countries are connected by the mountains and rivers, love and affection, harmony and togetherness," he said.
Shrestha stressed that "Nepal attaches great importance to its relations with China as Nepal firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is committed to not allowing any activity in its territory aimed against China."
According to the ambassador, regular high-level visits and virtual meetings have significantly contributed to more and more practical cooperation in trade, tourism, investment, education, culture, and people-to-people relations.
In March, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Nepal and held talks with Nepali Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka in Kathmandu. Wang stressed during the meeting that no matter how the international landscape and the domestic situations in the two countries evolve, China will unswervingly pursue friendly policies toward Nepal, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and advance the building of a China-Nepal community with a shared future along the course charted by the leaders of the two countries.
At the invitation of Wang, Khadka will visit China this week. The foreign ministers' mutual visits within a period of six months will demonstrate the mutual trust and friendship between the two countries.
At Sunday's event, Shrestha said Nepal hopes to welcome more Chinese tourists who can come to the country for mountain climbing.
"We are living amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Nepal and China have been cooperating and supporting each other in prevention and control of this pandemic. Keeping the prevention and control mechanism in place, Nepal is now open to all of you and eagerly waiting to welcome you," he said.
The ambassador said that fully vaccinated people are not required to quarantine in the country. Direct flights from Chengdu and Kunming to Kathmandu have also started and direct flights from other cities in China will gradually resume too.
"Nepal is home to eight mountains higher than 8,000 meters. The Himalayan mountain range is endowed with pristine nature and culture. Nepal is proud of its snowcapped great Himalayan ranges, deep gorges, beautiful forests, multiple biodiversity, flora and fauna, cool climatic conditions, traditional culture, festivals, and religious places of worship. I am sure friendly people from China will be fond of adventurous trekking and climbing," he said.
Annually, millions of Chinese people go to different part of the world including Nepal for trekking and climbing. The mountain tourism in Nepal fascinates tourists from China, he added.
The ambassador also urged coordinating, cooperating and acting together to share skills, knowledge and experience to collectively protect the mountains and their biodiversity and ecosystem while promoting mountaineering and trekking in Nepal.
Representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the Chinese Adventure Association and the Nepal Mountaineering Association attended the event on Sunday, as did representatives from the media.
