Children of martyrs from public security organs across the country will enjoy preferential recruitment policies when they apply for jobs at the police departments, a latest guidance from China's Ministry of Public Security said.

The Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security recently issued the guidance in a bid to show respect and appreciation toward police, complete the honor system for the police and strengthen assistance to the employment of policemen's family members.

By implementing a series of preferential policies, it is expected that the sense of professional honor, pride and belonging of police officers can be enhanced and the cohesion, centripetal force and combat effectiveness of the police team can be boosted.

According to the guidance, children of martyrs from public security organs and children of heroic martyrs who died on duty and who became disabled on duty from grades 1 to 4 (the four different levels of registered persons with disabilities in China with the grade 1 representing the most severe disability), will enjoy preferential treatment policies in the police recruitment work if they are eligible for and devote to engage in the public security organs.

Apart from the preferential policies in recruitment, the guidance specified a series of supportive policies for police and family members of police martyrs and role models.

The public security authority will proactively coordinate with relevant departments to provide skills training for unemployed spouses and children of police officers.

In the medical treatment aspect, the public security authority vows to obtain the support from the health sector to assure the policemen and family members of police martyrs can access efficient medical treatment.

In the education aspect, children of martyrs from public security organs and children of heroic martyrs who died on duty and who became disabled on duty from grades 1 to 4, will enjoy preferential education policies.

Besides, children of police who died and got handicapped on duty and who got seriously sick will be included into all kinds of funding projects.

Pension policies for family members of martyrs and police who died on duty or of illness and pension policies for the injured and disabled will be strictly implemented.

The guidance also stressed to strengthen safety and protection for frontline police officers by providing them with complete and sufficient police instruments and equipment as well as epidemic prevention supplies.

The authority vows to safeguard the law enforcement authority and legitimate rights and interests of the police. The illegal and criminal acts such as assaulting and insulting the police will be severely punished in accordance with the laws.

The authority urged that focus should be placed on police officers' major concerns and needs and their actual difficulties should be solved attentively so that they can devote wholeheartedly to their work and career.

Statistics show that more than 3,700 police officers from across the country have sacrificed their lives on duty and over 50,000 police officers were injured on duty over the past decade. Last year, a total of 261 policemen died on duty.

In recent years, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Public Security has attached great importance to caring for the children of public security martyrs and heroes, encouraging them to carry on the legacy of their parents and forge ahead on the new journey in the new era.

Since 2018, a total of more than 3,100 children of heroic martyrs from public security organs across the country have enjoyed preferential education policies, which has effectively solved the practical difficulties faced by the families of police heroic martyrs by having their children enrolled in higher education.
