A college teacher has become an internet hit in China as he teaches the elderly to read through live streaming on social media. His online classes are very popular, and always attract thousands of the elderly in a two-hour live streaming class.

The teacher surnamed Hou, got his PhD degree from a university in Beijing before becoming a college teacher. He said that because his mother did not know how to read and write, she would encounter many difficulties in daily life, so he came up with the idea of teaching the elderly to learn some basic words.

He teaches words that elderly often encounter in their everyday life, such as "savings" in the bank  and "body temperature" in the hospital, to help the elderly cope with difficult situations, including going shopping, seeing a doctor, and taking public transportation.

Many of Hou's students expressed their great appreciation for his teaching. Students said Hou's courses have helped old people learn a lot of basic words efficiently, which made their lives more convenient and helped them connect with the society.

Now Hou's mother can also read two or three thousand words, which enables her to go shopping by herself.

Netizens also praised that Hou's courses was very meaningful and more people should learn from him to help with the elderly's lives.
