A total of 2,296 delegates were elected to attend the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to an official statement released on September 25, 2022.

Since the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in 2017, the discipline inspection and supervision authorities across the country have busted 273,000 cases of formalism and bureaucracy, which leads to the punishment of 410,000 people.

The achievement reflects the resolution of the Party Central Committee in optimizing the working style of local governments and officials, which in turn, ensures the smooth progress of the cause of the Party and the state, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the Supervision Commission said on Sunday.

Through a year-on-year deployment, the crackdowns on formalism and bureaucracy made by discipline inspection commissions and supervision agencies have achieved notable results: Pressure for grassroot departments has been apparently alleviated and a positive working atmosphere where officials dare to shoulder responsibility has gradually formed.

Some of the focus by the authorities is in the formalism and bureaucracy that existed in aspects such as multiple working groups and "image projects" in the fields of education, medical, ecology and food security.

However, the CCDI said, there is no end in helping grassroots to further alleviate pressure in daily work.

The discipline inspection commissions and supervision agencies will maintain a strong momentum in cracking down formalism and bureaucracy and the work on optimizing long-term mechanism to meet the target goals, the CCDI said.
