The world's first six gene-edited pig to monkey multi-organ and multi-tissue transplantation operation was successfully carried out by 20 experts in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Tuesday, making a breakthrough in the field of xenogeneic organ transplantation.

The team took 14 hours to obtain three organs and three tissues from a gene-edited pig and transplanted them into four recipient monkeys at the same time, and all the recipient monkeys survived well.

It is reported that allogeneic organ transplantation has become a routine treatment for many end-stage diseases.

This operation further expands and confirms the possible application scope of xenotransplantation in the future and is expected to provide scientific data for emergency treatment of patients with organ failure.

"I believe that this group of doctors must have put a lot of efforts to make such progress. We all hope that we can solve the problem for more patients with cancer and difficult diseases as soon as possible," one netizen said.
