A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday slammed the US' economic coercion and bullying as Washington is reportedly pushing Japan and other allies to join its chip curbs against China, while urging countries to make the "right" decision on the matter.

The US government is asking its allies, including Japan, to follow its lead on restricting exports of advanced semiconductors and related technology to China, Nikkei Asia reported on Tuesday. "Tokyo has begun internal discussions on the issue at Washington's request," the report said.

Asked about the report at a regular press conference on Wednesday, Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said that the US has repeatedly abused export control measures, maliciously blocked and suppressed Chinese companies, and coerced allies to participate in the economic containment of China.

The US' actions have greatly undermined the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain, seriously violated free trade rules, and seriously damaged the economic development and people's well-being of all countries, Zhao said.

"China will continue to work with the international community to oppose US economic coercion and bullying, and jointly maintain the stability of the rules and foundation of the world economic system," the spokesperson said.

Zhao also urged "other countries" to independently make correct judgments based on their own long-term interests and the fundamental interests of the international community.
