Bank robber shot dead by Shandong police with hostage rescued

A suspect of bank robbery holding a hostage while robbing a bank in East China's Shandong Province was shot dead by local police with the hostage successfully rescued on Tuesday. 

The suspect with a weapon robbed a local bank in Taishan district in Taian city, Shandong, and took a hostage, according to a statement by the local public security bureau on Tuesday. 

According to the statement, the suspect got emotional, shouting that he will perish together with the hostage. 

The police shot the suspect dead at 1:12 pm after ignoring their repeated warnings. The hostage was successfully rescued and no other personnel were injured in the incident. 

The case is under further investigation by the police. 

According to media reports, the robbery happened at the Taishan branch of the Bank of China around Tuesday noon. A staffer working at a shop near the bank said many policemen joined the action, Shanghai-based media outlet The Paper reported on Tuesday. 

As of 3 pm on Tuesday, the neighborhood where the incident happened had returned to normal.
