US officials and media once again staged a farce regarding the alleged “Chinese spy base in Cuba” by spreading contradictory information, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry in response to US’ groundless accusation that China uses a secrete base in Cuba to spy on the US.

Some Chinese experts have warned that US’ groundless accusation could become another “spy balloon incident” that may once again drag on Washington’s plan to reengage with China.

While the White House first denied a Wall Street Journal report that China is building a so-called spy base in Cuba that would target US military bases and communications, an official of the Biden administration told US media on anonymity that “the Chinese base in Cuba has already been established in 2019.”

Both Cuba and China have refuted the US' claims.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said during a press conference on Monday that in just two days, the US officials and media have spread a series of contradictory information regarding the alleged construction of a Chinese spy facility in Cuba, once again staging a farce of the US denying itself.

“What I want to say is that falsehoods cannot be made true, and truths cannot be made false,” said Wang, noting that no matter how the US fabricates rumors and smears, it cannot undermine the sincere friendship between China and Cuba, nor can it conceal the blemishes of the US engaging in large-scale indiscriminate eavesdropping and espionage against countries around the world.

As the slanderous speculation about the so-called spy base continues, US media cited an anonymous official as saying that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to visit China on June 18 for talks delayed since the “balloon incident.”

When asked to comment on the situation, Wang said he currently does not have any information to provide on Blinken’s visit and reaffirmed China’s position on the matter.
