Recently, a rural primary school in Xuancheng, East China's Anhui Province, rewarded each top student with a certificate and a chicken. The school said that all the chickens were raised by the students themselves.

The selection criteria for this award were not only based on exam results, but also on one's all-round development. The school promoted labor education, and the students raised chickens in the labor practice base, so the school directly used these chickens as rewards for the students.

A teacher surnamed Hu said that the school has specially set aside a piece of land and fenced it off for the students to raise chickens on their own. The school also rented a field outside the school wall, and teachers would take the students to plant rice every year, and harvest the rice when it is ripe. "The students would use the rice they have grown to feed the chickens," Hu said.

Some netizens expressed that such reward was unexpected but also interesting, and this exercise enhanced the children's labor ability.
