China supports the holding in due course of an international peace conference on the Ukraine crisis that is recognized by both Russia and Ukraine with equal participation of all parties and fair discussions on all peace plans, considering that any conflict will ultimately have to be resolved through diplomatic channels and political negotiation, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday in response to China's expectation about Ukraine peace conference to be held in Switzerland in June.

The two leaders from China and Germany met in Beijing on Tuesday, exchanged views on issues including the Ukraine crisis, and the two countries encourage and support efforts to seek a political settlement for peace in Ukraine, and are ready to continue to maintain close communication on the convening of a high-level conference in Switzerland and other future relevant international peace conferences.

In response to a question about China's expectation toward the peace conference taking place without Russia, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said during a Wednesday briefing that the Chinese leader said during the meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday that China encourages and supports all efforts that are conducive to the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis, and supports the holding in due course of an international peace conference that is recognized by both Russia and Ukraine and ensures the equal participation of all parties and fair discussions on all peace plans.

China will maintain close communication with all parties concerned, including Germany, on this matter, Lin said.

China believes that ultimately, any conflict will have to be resolved through diplomatic channels and political negotiation; therefore, the only way out of the Ukraine crisis is to go back to the negotiation table, Lin added.

"We've learned that the relevant conference is still under preparation and a lot of work remains to be done. China is ready to maintain communication with relevant parties," said Lin.
