China firmly opposes some US media and politicians using the illegal immigration issue to attack, smear, and shift blame onto China, a spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy in the US said on Tuesday. The spokesperson noted that China remains open to cooperating with Washington on the repatriation of illegal immigrants.

For some time now, some US media and politicians have been hyping up the so-called phenomenon of a large number of Chinese immigrants illegally entering the US, claiming that China has not taken measures to prevent this.

In response to these claims, a spokesperson  from the embassy said that China's stance on illegal immigration has always been consistent and clear. China resolutely opposes any form of illegal immigration.

In recent years, Chinese law enforcement agencies have been vigorously cracking down on crimes, maintaining high pressure on smuggling organizations and individuals, and have achieved significant results.

At the same time, Chinese law enforcement agencies are cooperating with a number of countries to jointly combat cross-border smuggling activities and repatriate illegal immigrants, maintaining the order of international personnel exchanges.

The issue of illegal immigration is an international one that requires cooperation among all concerned parties.

"China firmly opposes certain US media and politicians using this issue to attack, smear, and shift blame onto China," the spokesperson stressed.

China remains open to cooperating with the US on the repatriation of illegal immigrants. However, the US side should also demonstrate sincerity and equally address China's concerns, creating a suitable atmosphere for such cooperation, the embassy noted.
