Wu Yingjie, a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, who was also former secretary of the Xizang Autonomous Regional committee of the Communist Party of China, is under investigation for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and the law.

Wu, also head of the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the CPPCC National Committee, is being investigated by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Commission of Supervision, according to a statement published on the website of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.

Born in December, 1956, Wu holds a graduate degree from the Party School of the CPC Central Committee (National Academy of Governance) and began working in 1974. 

Wu worked in Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region for an extended period, holding positions such as deputy secretary and director of the Party committee of the education department of the region. 

In 2003, he was promoted to vice chairman of the regional government and two years later, became a standing committee member of the regional Party committee and head of the regional publicity department. 

He went on to serve as executive vice chairman of the regional government. In 2011, he was appointed deputy secretary of the region's Party committee, and in 2013, he became executive deputy secretary of the regional Party Committee. 

In August 2016, he was appointed secretary of the regional Party committee, a position he held until October 2021.

After leaving Xizang, Wu served as deputy director of the education, science, culture, and health Committee of the 13th National People's Congress and as a standing committee member and head of the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the 14th CPPCC National Committee,

Following revelations over the investigation into Wu, the number of senior officials who were directly appointed by CPC Central Committee investigated from January to June this year has risen to 33. This includes Wang Yong, a member of the Party leadership group and vice chairman of the Xizang Autonomous Region Government, who was placed under investigation in January.
