A man from Dali, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, was caught on video scattering money over ancient walls, igniting a lively online discussion. 

Footage showed crowds of tourists gathering at the city wall's battlements, eagerly scrambling for a share in the spoils.

Reports suggested that the man had won a lottery ticket worth 660,000 yuan ($90,444), but local authorities dismissed the claims. 

According to The Paper, the man had recently had a dispute with family members and expressed his frustration by throwing cash. Local government departments intervened and mediated with the families involved.
