When being asked to comment on Kremlin's announcement of a ceasefire for the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War to last from May 8 to May 11 Moscow time, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday that China's position on the Ukraine crisis is clear and consistent: China supports all efforts conducive to peace and hopes that all relevant parties will continue to resolve the crisis through dialogue and negotiation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday announced a three-day truce starting from midnight May 8, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The Kremlin said that Putin had ordered a full cessation of hostilities to mark the 80th anniversary of Russia's Victory Day, which falls on May 9, Xinhua said.
Russia called on Ukraine to join the truce, it said, adding that Russian troops would give "adequate and effective response" if Ukraine violates the ceasefire, according to Xinhua.
