China's State Council Information Office on Tuesday unveiled an emblem commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Highlighting a striking yellow number "80" in the center, the emblem also features symbolic elements of the Great Wall, olive branches, brilliance, and "1945-2025."

The Great Wall symbolizes the spirit of the Chinese people uniting together and fighting with courage, representing the decisive role of a national spirit to which patriotism is central in the victory of the war against Japanese aggression.

The olive branches demonstrate that after an arduous war of resistance, the Chinese people have won peace with victory, and that the Chinese people unite with people of all other countries to cherish and safeguard peace, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

A "gate of victory" formed by brilliance symbolizes that the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War is a victory of justice over evil, light over darkness, and progress over reaction. It indicates that the country has bright prospects for realizing national rejuvenation under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China.

The emblem may be used in decorations for events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as in the production of materials for publicity, educational activities, and relevant foreign affairs events, according to the office.

Following the announcement, one Sina Weibo user wrote: "It is not just a logo, but a totem forged from the blood and tears of 35 million compatriots."

Other comments include "We shall remember history and strive to be stronger" and "strive for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation."

A spokesperson of China's Ministry of National Defense stated in February that "we will solemnly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War."

The National Museum of China in Beijing will host the "International Friends and China's War of Resistance - Exhibition Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression." It will showcase how, during the arduous years of China's resistance, numerous international friends—doctors, journalists, engineers, and others—journeyed from afar to China. Through direct combat, battlefield medical aid, and frontline reporting, they composed heroic hymns of internationalism, according to China News.

The Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, along with numerous academic institutions and schools, is holding essay competitions to raise public awareness and commemorate the anniversary.

Zhang Yiwu, a Peking University professor of cultural studies, told the Global Times that this anniversary is not only a time of solemn remembrance but also a proud celebration of peace, justice, and international solidarity. "Through the commemoration, we honor the sacrifice of heroes, inherit their spirit, and strengthen national unity and morale for great cause of national rejuvenation."

Solemn commemoration plays a vital role in upholding an accurate view of history and countering lies and distortions by certain forces, Lin Limin, president of the Chinese Research Association of Second World War History, told the Global Times.

Amid regional conflicts and challenges to the post-war international order, China is championing peace and cooperation, opposing unilateralism and bullying. The Chinese people, Lin said, have the capacity and are committed to serving as a pillar in upholding global justice and the UN-centered international system and advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
